Help....

Postby Grafix » 2003 07 26 1648

Hello all.

:? I have just finished writing my ebook (genealogy) using Powerpoint 2002
and have also downloaded trial versions of compilers but not able to make
an exe with any of them?

When using P/point I made the front page slide and saved as presentation
then continued to add and save subsequent slides (53 in all), most with a
small gif map/coat of arms, I also used WordArt.
When finished I saved as a webpage index.html into the same folder called source with the gifs.
Using Active E-book I get a message saying success and a book with hand
on my desktop but it will not open;.......using another compiler called Pro-
compiler I get a book with an error message Char line 468, but I can access
the book only with the back/next tabs and it reads all the way through ok
but none of the hyper links work.......

Can anyone suggest what I may be doing wrong (probably in P/point)

Thanks.

These aren't technologies I've ever used myself, but an old CS trick to locate if the problem in in the PP files is to make a copy with half the book and see if it compiles correctly. If half does and half doesn't, do it again, narrowing down until you find the part with the problem. Delete that part and redo it.

OTOH, if this does not work at all, you're probably going to have to check the documentation for the book compiler.

Hi Ric.

Thanks for the suggestion, I need all I can get.......LOL

Since posting my first cry for help, I did try something like you have
suggested.......I made a simple presentation of nine slides using the
Wizard, I added no graphics or even text...then I saved it as webpage
into a source folder and tried every TRIAL compiler I could get my hands
on.....NO LUCK!......none will make an exe ?, so I am at a loss.

Even tried using my wifes machine that has powerpoint 2000, no luck with
that either........perhaps I am not meant to be an author!!!

:0)

Still open to any other suggestions, so feel free to post.

Thanks again.

Not completely on subject --

I would suggest that you avoid the use of so-called "ebook compilers". Using executables for eBooks probably isn't going to help you out much, as many people are far too paranoid about random executables. I recommend that you go with a more standard eBook format such as Open eBook, Microsoft Reader, or at worst case, Adobe PDF.

Well, I didn't want to say so right away, but I think I agree. Though I have never used any of these compilers myself, past experience with questions on other boards and newsletters leads me to believe most people do not find them very reliable.

What is a proxy chain?
A Proxy chain is a connection of 2 or more proxy servers. ProxyWay allows to work with any Internet service through a proxy chain of SOCKS or HTTP proxies. Using the program you can create proxy services (cascades/chains) with any number of proxy servers (supports HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS4 and SOCKS5) to provide IP address security and tunnel Internet activity through proxy servers.
